Life in the Frustrating Forties : An Introduction

Jill Duke

Let me start by saying a couple of things.  I know the title of the blog sounds a little Debbie Downerish, but as I have been thinking over the past several of months what I wanted this blog to be about, I decided I should write about what I know best -- myself and my life experiences, especially since I have turned 40.  I will turn 45 this year, and if I had to use one word to sum up my forties so far, that one word would be frustrating.  When I turned 40, it was like a switch flipped in my mind and body.  It was like overnight, my thoughts had changed.  My emotions had changed.  My body had changed.  It was like I had been injected with some drug administered to new 40-year-olds that made the old me disappear.  I'll go into more detail in future blog posts about exactly what those changes were, so stay tuned.  When I turned 40, I became a slightly new (and maybe not-so-improved) me.

That said, not all has been horrible and frustrating in my forties.  A positive outcome of turning 40 was it ramped up my motivation and drive to try new things and pursue new opportunities.  It prompted me to step out of my comfort zone in ways I wasn't willing to before.  As a result, I have opened Sugar Pine Boutique and it has become my new passion.  I have so enjoyed these past several months trying to figure out how to run and grow a business, and I have really enjoyed experimenting with providing styles for all of you that are cute, comfortable, and affordable.  I don't always hit the mark and I'm learning as I go, so I am so thankful to all of you who have supported me so far and for your patience with me as I grow.

It might be kind of weird to have a blog on a clothing website that isn't really about fashion, but as an online-only business, I wanted to provide a way to connect with my customers on a more personal level.  I will share stories of my life that I hope you find relatable and maybe even a little bit funny.  My hope is that this can be an interactive forum for you to provide your own comments and stories.  I will be updating content on the blog on regular basis, so I hope you will follow along and share with your family and friends.  I hope you find this new feature of Sugar Pine Boutique enjoyable and I look forward to our future interactions.
